Materials & Manufacturing

All our materials, components and production processes are what we would specify for our industrial clients. All of the parts and materials in our products are selected from our library of items an experience that  we know will function in and industrial setting.

Macracarpa Tops

All of our tops are made from Macracarpa sleepers. We do allow some live edges that will add character. All dead material and knots are removed and consolidated with epoxy resin.

We purchase wood for your top at time of order to allow some drying time, as the top dries completely and settles some cracking may occur. These should be fine and won't affect items on the  tops

You can finish your top with any finish you desire, we like the raw linseed oil. see below section.

All tops are pined, screwed and glued together. We provide a surface finished up to roughly 120grit, some imperfections are allowed.

Top finishes

Our Tops come finished to a rough 120 Grit after leveling and rounding.

In all our photos we show a linseed oil finish. To successfully apply this please do the following.

In the first month oil every week. In the second month every other week. From the third month on every month, until... The wood will stop accepting new oil, if a tacky build up occurs stop oiling your top. It should only need to be re-oiled once to twice a year from here out.

Apply anything, As raw wood you can choose any paint, stain, varnish or epoxy finish you like.

Steel

All our steel comes from Fletchers, a  New Zealand producer of structural sections. We use 350Mpa Structural sections in all our constructions.

Coreten

The natural weather process for Coreten can be seen to the left. The brazier in the shop photos is about 3 months old.

During the weathering process small rust stains may leech from any contact point. Make sure to store your product so that it doesn't mark any important surfaces

Coreten has to  dry off the allow the correct patina to develop, because of this we recommend that any ash is cleaned from the product to prevent wet ash sitting on the surface.

Epoxy paints

Hammerright - Gloss Black. This is our go to paint on epoxy finish.

The coffee table in the pictures used a 2-pac epoxy PPG system that is UV stable. It is designed to be used on  truck bodies. Expected service life is 10 years.  We are actively working to this system over a sandblasted surface.
